LOCATION AND BOUNDARIES

        The Municipality of San Miguel is located at the Northeastern part of the Island of Leyte. It is bounded on the North by the Carigara Bay with approximately 5.54 km. coastline; on the Northeast by the Municipality of Babatngon; on the Southeast by Tacloban City; on the South by the Municipality of Alangalang ; and on the West by the Municipality of Barugo. The central business district is positioned at 124.827 Longitude and 11.295 Latitude.

LAND AREA

        The Municipality of San Miguel covers a total land area of 12,697.95 hectares with mixed topographic reliefs. The north eastern part down the south eastern portions of the municipality adjoining the Municipality of Babatngon is a mountainous forest area covering approximately 4,301.08hectares more or less or about 33.87 % of the total land area while 8,396.87 hectares or a total of 66.13 % of the total land area are Alienable and Disposable lands characterized by flat to rolling plain covers.

TOPOGRAPHY

        Natural land slope are categorized into six (6) ranges. The first category is 0 to 8% slope of flatlands; there is 60.25 % of the total land area in this category. These areas are considered as irrigable and highly suitable for agriculture, urban and industrial uses.  The 8 – 18 % slope is characterized as gently sloping to undulating and is suitable for agricultural and non-agricultural development. This covers 10 % of the total land area.  The slope between 18- 30 % is hilly to mountainous areas which are categorically comprises 8.33% of the total land area.  The 30% to 50% slope category is classified as moderately steep to very steep which covers 23.53 % of the land area. Slope above 50% is characterized as very steep to extremely rough mountainous areas equivalent to 7.79 % of the total land area.
